Description:
A smaller treecreeper, with very defined and clear features and coloration. From Bar-tailed by shorter, less downcurved bill, uniform (unbarred) tail, and more prominent buff banding across wing. Whitish throat and breast, dull brown tail, and more pronounced white supercilium.
Distribution:
Locally common resident in parts of Ghizer, Nagar, Gilgit, Astore and Diamer districts. Found in high-altitude coniferous woodland, often mixed birch or occasionally oak, sometimes in pure birch forest. In summer at 2700-3300m.
Behavior:
Forages on trees in typical treecreeper manner, work upwards in jerky hops, spiraling around trunk, then flies to bottom of another tree and repeats process; recorded as foraging also on moss-covered rocks. Food mainly consists of small arthropods, insects, spiders and, in winter, also some seeds (especially pine and spruce).
